Main Features Objective:
  • To accelerate the adoption of Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) and to improve enterprise environmental performance under the wider umbrella of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) best practices and innovative approaches within selected small, medium and largescale industrial enterprises in Nigeria.
Main activities:
  • Design and develop a Project Identification Form (PIF) for GEF Full-sized Project (GEF-FSP) on “Improving Nigeria Industrial Energy and Resources Efficient Cleaner Production – IEE/RECP.
  • Carry out baseline assessments on energy efficiency, waste minimization, material/resource efficiency, wastewater effluents, emission and pollution of the country’s energy, industrial, manufacturing and agro-processing sector.
  • Conduct research, carry out review of existing policies on environment and industrial/manufacturing activities in the country.
  • Develop the GEF-Full Size Project logical framework analysis including detailed description of project outcomes, outputs, activities and indicators, with deliverables, timing costs, and responsibilities.
  • Integrate into the PIF, fundamental principles of Environmental Management System – ISO 14001 (EMS), Energy Management System – ISO 5001 (EnMS), and Quality Management System – ISO 9001(QMS) as they will respond to the country’s environmental, energy, and industrial challenges and prospects.
  • Develop a GEF Project document and provide guidance/orientation on indicators and quantifiable targets particularly to track project progress and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate multi-stakeholder consultation process (and validation workshops) with target beneficiary groups including the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), IFIs/FIs, relevant MDAs and professional expert groups.

Main Features Objective:
  • To enable the Governments of Egypt, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa unlock and unleash the triple-bottom line development potential of Green Industries for low carbon and climate resilient adaptation as contribution to sustainable development and poverty eradication in the four beneficiary countries, both nationally and regionally.
Main activities:
  • Plan and facilitate the adaptation of Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) assessments in selected industries.
  • Carry out on-site RECP-assessments with National Cleaner Production Centers as local partners to identify LCCR adaptation and mitigation options, at four industrial/processing facilities (each) in Kenya, South Africa, Egypt and Senegal.

Position Global Coordinator: Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Finance and Investment (Work Stream).
Main Features Objective:
  • To improve resource productivity and environmental performance of businesses and other organizations and thereby contribute to sustainable industrial development and sustainable production and consumption at the national levels in the participating countries.
Main activities:
  • Coordinate and manage the implementation of the RECP Finance and investment mechanisms in five target countries – China, India, South Africa, Colombia & Tunisia.
  • Recommend governmental and bank institutions strategies to mainstream and promote innovative “Green” financing instruments for mainstreaming RECP into enterprise financial planning.
  • Identify, liaise and work closely with key global, regional and local stakeholders and experts, notably the National Cleaner Production Centres in the targeted countries, as intermediary to SME’s in various technical fields.
  • Coordinate the design and development of a Primer on RECP financing with guidelines aimed at guiding stakeholders, notably National Cleaner Production Centres (NCPCs), financing institutions and enterprises, in the context of RECP investments.
  • Identify needs for capacity building of NCPCs on RECP financing, notably for developing ‘bankable’ project proposals in the pilot countries China, India, Tunisia, Colombia and South Africa.
  • Design training materials on RECP Finance and Investment for 400 targeted global participants – private business (SME’s), representatives from Government, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), RECP services providers, Tech/Innovation companies, International and local banks, registered and recognized organizations and associations.

  • Demonstration of Mercury Reduction and Minimization in the Production of Vinyl Chloride Monomer in China.
Main activities:
  • Promote the adaptation of UNIDO’s methodology for Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production RECP assessments to be applied in China’s Vinyl Chloride Monomer VCM industry, with a focus on mercury balancing.
  • Organize and conducted RECP assessment training sessions for local RECP experts, industry and governmental inspection body, with a focus on mercury emission, balancing, BAT and BEP (Best Environmental Practices).
  • Carry out RECP-assessments in four demonstration sites of China VCM industry and identification of RECP improvement options, including blended training for local experts.
